Felix, Poo Cannon

Last night I was awoken by Dani trying to get my attention from Felix's room, by saying "Felix pooed". Groggy and bitter, I think to my self, 'Really, that seems so unlike him?' and 'Why does it take a team to change him in the middle of the night?' When I turn the corner to enter the bedroom I see what has occurred will take a team: any area directly south of Felix has been sprayed with his yellow lentil soup. Many have warned of the tiny fountain that comes with little boys and its predilection to fire when exposed to the air, but no one has warned of the other, deadlier weapon just inches away. His tiny poo cannon was able to shoot an amazing six feet before hitting the door about 2 feet from the floor! We quickly mopped up the filth, laughing in utter amazement thinking: who's child is this?

Side view

Felix has the sweetest little profile.

A walk in the park

Felix and I went for a walk in the park today. It was a lovely walk - the sun was shining, and the trees and flowers are in full bloom. We stopped under this tree for a short break, and the petals were falling around us like snow. Just like on our other outings, Felix slept through almost the whole thing, but I think he liked feeling the sun on his face every once in a while, and the gentle motion of the stroller, because he smiled in his sleep a few times.

First bath!

Once Felix's cord stub fell off, we were excited to get him into his first bath! He didn't cry at all when we submerged him in the lukewarm water, and appeared to actually enjoy the activity. He busily sucked the water off of his hand while Alex scrubbed him down. When we pulled him out of the tub, he expressed his disapproval by screaming his head off. I think the air felt cool on his moist skin, but once he was clean, dry, and in a warm pair of PJs, he was happy again. And hungry. He is such a good eater - Great Grandma G would be proud. At his pediatric visit on Monday, he weighed in at 9 lbs 4 oz and is now 21 1/4 in! That's quite a growth spurt from his birth weight and height (7 lbs 9 oz, 19 3/4 in), and he's not even 3 weeks old yet!

Back to work

After nearly three weeks of much deserved time off, tomorrow I head back to work. It has been so much fun to hang out and watch Felix get fatter, scream and poop a lot. Seriously, these have been the best weeks of my life; it will be tough to leave Dani and Felix alone. I think Felix is sad to see me go:

Little fatty!

We went in for his 2 week checkup today and he is healthy and hefty: 8 pounds 10 ounces! He is eating so much that he can't keep it in his mouth; I got his "leftovers" two times in less than an hour. Here is a picture of Felix's plump little paw:

A winning photo

Everyone loves this photo of our handsome little Felix.

So good to be home...

Felix and I rested on the front porch while Dad worked on the front beds. So good to be home, and the weather has been fantastic. Hard to believe that we still have some winter ahead of us, but we are all happy and healthy and enjoying our new lives as a family of 3.

Drumroll please...

His CRP number is: 5! We are out of here sometime this evening after his final dose of Ampicillin!! It will be nice to show Felix his new, permanent home.

Two numbers + one to come

Nearly six days ago Felix came into the world and had a very high score of 56 on his first CRP test. This first number determined that he should be on antibiotics (Ampicillin every 8 hours and Gentamicin every 36 hours) for at least 7 days, and maybe up to 21. His second series of numbers is his weight: measured at birth was 3,430g and like any normal kid dropped to around 3,175g a few days ago and just a few minutes ago measured 3,447g. Eating nearly every hour has been tough on mom's sleep schedule, but great for his health.

The one number to come will be the results of another CRP test this morning, and if you have been following the supplied links and previous posts you know should be ≥10. More to come...

Talkies!

The last video posted here was of the 20 week ultrasound and figured that everyone would like to see some moving pictures of Felix 'on the outside'.

We are still in the hospital, but will be getting another CRP tomorrow morning and if it is low (below 10) then we can leave at 10 pm after his final antibiotic treatment. If it is high, then we are here for 3 more soul-sucking days.
